Nothing Gold Can Stay
I have always loved the poem by Robert Frost, “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, even before the high school literature teacher wanted us to make deeper meaning from it. I continue to associate it with nature and the beauty of all that we have been privileged to experience within that realm. This is one of a series of quilted projects I have made with the emphasis on leaves of many textures and finishes. Nothing Gold Can Stay was also the subject of an artistic piece that my daughter did while in college so I guess there is a familial as well as emotional connection to the words of Frost.
Painted Tyvek, painted fusible web and painted leaves have been applied to a background of my own hand dyed vintage linen. The poem was printed on silk organza and fused to the background then beaded. Quilting was done with both rayon and metallic threads.
